Grant Park Orchestra Auditions

The Grant Park Orchestra is happy to announce the following vacancies for the Festival's 2017 season:

  • 3rd HORN

The Grant Park Orchestra season is currently scheduled to begin June 13 and run through August 19, 2017 in Millennium Park, Chicago, IL.

2017 regular weekly salary is $1,496.38 plus a generous benefits package.

  • Audition dates will be scheduled for February and March 2017. Only highly qualified applicants should apply.
  • The audition committee of the Grant Park Orchestra reserves the right to immediately dismiss any candidate not meeting professional standards.
  • Should an advertised position be offered to a current member of the Grant Park Orchestra, the resulting vacancy may be offered to the next most qualified candidate.
  • The winning candidate must be legally eligible to accept work with the Grant Park Orchestra. The orchestra reserves the right to refuse to audition candidates who are unable to demonstrate legal eligibility to work.

A cover letter is unnecessary.

Deposit check: Make it payable to the Grant Park Music Festival. Checks will be held and returned when candidates arrive at the audition or will be destroyed if candidate withdraws before the withdrawal deadline.

E) your 1st and 2nd choice of dates. (If your 1st choice is full and no 2nd choice is indicated, you will go to the waiting list.)

When we receive your application

  • By email we will assign you a date and hour. We assign 6 candidates to each hour. If you are in the 2:00 group, you will play sometime between 2 & 3.
  • Practice rooms open 1 hour before auditions begin and are available roughly 20 minutes before each candidate auditions.
  • Space is limited. Assignments will be made on a first come, first served basis.
  • Once all slots are full, candidates will go on a waiting list.
  • Preliminary round
  • Preliminaries are behind a screen.

Semifinal round(*)

A semifinal round will take place at the end of each day. Please be prepared to stay till 6:00pm. Semifinals are also behind a screen. Since semifinals are behind a screen, semifinalists will not put on our substitutes list.

Final round

All final rounds are without a screen. The Audition Committee may put finalists on the substitute list.
