Artistic Internship

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: All internships include general internal office responsibilities and work out of doors within Millennium Park as well as the opportunity to specialize in a specific department within the GPMF Organization. Interns must exhibit highly developed interpersonal skills, the ability to work a flexible 40 hour week including days, evenings, and Saturday afternoon and evening. Close attention to detail with the ability to work at a high level of competency and efficacy in a fast paced environment is necessary. Computer literacy is required as well as the ability to perform some physical labor. Strong verbal and written communications skills are a must. Candidates must have completed sophomore year in college. During office hours conservative business casual attire must be worn:  during concerts khaki or dark trousers or skirts are worn with the GPMF intern shirt. Internships begin May 12 and continue through August 16. A firm commitment for the entire season is required.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: An applicant must be an actual resident of the City of Chicago. Proof of residency will be required at the time of employment.

2008 SALARY: $9.00 an hour

APPLICATION PERIOD: January 1, 2008 – March 1, 2008

NOTE: Applications should be submitted by the individual applicant. No second party applications will be accepted.

DUTIES: Full-time summer intern who works with the Artistic and General Director and Sound Technicians and reports to the General Manager.  This is an excellent opportunity for a person interested in arts management or a musician (vocalist, instrumentalist, conductor or composer) or a student of audio or acoustics.  Duties include: acts as an assistant to the Artistic and General Director; conducts season and artist research and planning for ensuing seasons; communicates with artist managements on artist date availability and repertory; communicates on behalf of Artistic and General Director with constituents, including Board members, sponsors and public; assists with written correspondence; schedules meetings for Artistic and General Director; assists elsewhere as requested; attends all rehearsals and concerts, reading scores and assisting sound technicians in balancing sound; coordinates post concert hospitality needs as requested; acts as a liaison for Artistic and General Director as requested; and other related duties as required.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Basic knowledge of classical music repertoire. Ability to handle multiple tasks at once and ability to act in a mature, professional manner with a variety of people. Highly developed sense of diplomacy with ability to remain calm and while helping others.
