Development and Sponsorship Internship

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: All internships include general internal office responsibilities and work out of doors within Millennium Park as well as the opportunity to specialize in a specific department within the GPMF Organization. Interns must exhibit highly developed interpersonal skills, the ability to work a flexible 40 hour week including days, evenings, and Saturday afternoon and evening. Close attention to detail with the ability to work at a high level of competency and efficacy in a fast paced environment is necessary. Computer literacy is required as well as the ability to perform some physical labor. Strong verbal and written communications skills are a must. Candidates must have completed sophomore year in college. During office hours conservative business casual attire must be worn:  during concerts khaki or dark trousers or skirts are worn with the GPMF intern shirt. Internships begin May 12 and continue through August 16. A firm commitment for the entire season is required.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: An applicant must be an actual resident of the City of Chicago. Proof of residency will be required at the time of employment.

2008 SALARY: $9.00 an hour

APPLICATION PERIOD: January 1, 2008 – March 1, 2008

NOTE: Applications should be submitted by the individual applicant. No second party applications will be accepted.

DUTIES: Responsible for assisting with fundraising and sponsorship initiatives. The Development/Sponsorship intern works in close association with the Development and Sponsorship Coordinator and reports to the General Manager. The Intern is responsible for assisting the Development department in duties pertaining to the successful implementation of fundraising activities taking place during the ten week Festival season, including the Festival’s annual 500 person gala, Divertimento.  Specifically, the Development Intern will maintain donor records, sponsorship compliance charts, onsite sponsorship promotions and other sponsorship recognition, major donor and board prospect tracking charts; other related duties as required; and will assist with: the coordination of VIP events, mailing lists, committee meetings for gala/board development/fundraising committees; Preparation of sponsorship communications/materials, committee meeting minutes, and end-of-season fundraising appeal; Maintenance of regular communication with 20+ corporate sponsors/250+ major donors/500 event guests, proper usage of corporate logos, prospect research. The development intern should plan on attending most concerts and special events throughout the season. This internship is an ideal experience for individuals seeking a career in event management; corporate, individual, and special event fundraising; nonprofit organization operations; and arts management

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Desire to coordinate large and small fundraising events, and an interest in accommodating customer, donor and corporate constituencies. Experience with detail oriented projects.  Ability to write standard business letters with ease. Ability to alternate tasks quickly. Highly developed sense of diplomacy with ability to remain calm and while helping others.  Previous experience in customer service is a plus.
