Membership Internship

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: All internships include general internal office responsibilities and work out of doors within Millennium Park as well as the opportunity to specialize in a specific department within the GPMF Organization. Interns must exhibit highly developed interpersonal skills, the ability to work a flexible 40 hour week including days, evenings, and Saturday afternoon and evening. Close attention to detail with the ability to work at a high level of competency and efficacy in a fast paced environment is necessary. Computer literacy is required as well as the ability to perform some physical labor. Strong verbal and written communications skills are a must. Candidates must have completed sophomore year in college. During office hours conservative business casual attire must be worn:  during concerts khaki or dark trousers or skirts are worn with the GPMF intern shirt. Internships begin May 12 and continue through August 16. A firm commitment for the entire season is required.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: An applicant must be an actual resident of the City of Chicago. Proof of residency will be required at the time of employment.

2008 SALARY: $9.00 an hour

APPLICATION PERIOD: January 1, 2008 – March 1, 2008

NOTE: Applications should be submitted by the individual applicant. No second party applications will be accepted.

DUTIES: The Grant Park Music Festival’s Membership Interns work with the Membership Coordinator and report to the General Manager. The Membership Intern helps create a dynamic, satisfying and enjoyable experience for those who attend the festival’s performances over the course of the summer, including members, groups, VIPs, member guests and the media. Duties include: helping coordinate a variety of special events such as member parties, educational programs, backstage tours, and fund-raising projects: taking and processing orders and learning to use and maintain database of members, patrons, and donors: providing information on the festival to the general public during open rehearsals and serving in front-of-house positions during concerts: coordinating aspects of front-of-house setup: assisting in planning and running a number of pre- and post-concert receptions and parties: helping coordinate three annual off-site summer concerts: administering on-site audience surveys and fundraising efforts: working with the Marketing and Media Directors to meet publicity needs for the festival: and performing other related duties as required. This is an excellent learning opportunity for someone interested in working directly with the public as an ambassador for the festival and seeking to pursue a career in arts management and fund-raising/development.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of classical music is a plus. Competency in Excel and Word. A highly developed sense of diplomacy with an ability to remain calm while helping others.
