Production Internship

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: All internships include general internal office responsibilities and work out of doors within Millennium Park as well as the opportunity to specialize in a specific department within the GPMF Organization. Interns must exhibit highly developed interpersonal skills, the ability to work a flexible 40 hour week including days, evenings, and Saturday afternoon and evening. Close attention to detail with the ability to work at a high level of competency and efficacy in a fast paced environment is necessary. Computer literacy is required as well as the ability to perform some physical labor. Strong verbal and written communications skills are a must. Candidates must have completed sophomore year in college. During office hours conservative business casual attire must be worn:  during concerts khaki or dark trousers or skirts are worn with the GPMF intern shirt. Internships begin May 12 and continue through August 16. A firm commitment for the entire season is required.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: An applicant must be an actual resident of the City of Chicago. Proof of residency will be required at the time of employment.

2008 SALARY: $9.00 an hour

APPLICATION PERIOD: January 1, 2008 – March 1, 2008

NOTE: Applications should be submitted by the individual applicant. No second party applications will be accepted.

DUTIES: This is an excellent opportunity for a person interested in event production or arts management. The Production Intern works with the Orchestra Manager and reports to the General Manager. The intern will assist the Orchestra Manager with the daily operation of the GPMF Music Festival rehearsal and performance season. Coordinates rehearsal and performance schedules; coordinates with artist managements and airline and hotel sponsors to arrange travel and lodging for guest artists and conductors; prepares and distributes itineraries for guest artists and conductors; tracks usage of hotel and airline sponsorship accounts; arranges all local transportation for guest artists and conductors; plans limo service for guest artists and conductors as needed; tracks usage of limo sponsorship account; prepares and distributes weekly transportation schedules; coordinates security needs and interacts with guards as needed; assists in determining instrument rental needs; coordinates piano tuning schedule; maintains equipment; assists with ascertaining and fulfilling production needs for special projects; provides transportation for load-in and load-out of instruments; coordinates and provides for hospitality needs of guest artists and conductors and for the Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus during services; monitors contractual processes to ensure timely payment of guest artists and conductors; maintains and updates orchestra roster; assists in handling calls from artist managers; and other related duties as required.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Basic knowledge of classical music repertoire.
