POSITIONS AVAILABLE GRANT PARK MUSIC FESTIVAL 2008 SUMMER INTERNSHIPS

The Grant Park Music Festival announces summer internship opportunities for its 74rd season in 2008.  The nation’s only remaining free, municipally supported, outdoor summer classical music series, the Grant Park Music Festival presents over 30 concerts featuring the Grammy nominated Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus led by Principal Conductor Carlos Kalmar, Chorus Director Christopher Bell and a roster of international guest artists.

Main stage concerts are held in the performance venues of Chicago’s highly acclaimed Millennium Park, including the acoustically superb Joan W. and Irving B. Harris Theater for Music and Dance, and the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, the stunning outdoor concert facility designed by the internationally renowned architect Frank Gehry.

Summer interns are responsible for assisting with the administrative, presentational, promotional and/or technical aspects of the Festival.  All individuals will interact with audience members, corporate sponsors, orchestra and chorus members and guest artists; therefore, a professional and mature decorum is required.  College students who have completed their sophomore year, graduate students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

The benefits of a Grant Park Music Festival internship include:

  • $9/per hour stipend, 40 hours per week, up to 14 weeks. Housing and transportation are the applicant’s responsibility. Candidates must reside in the city of Chicago at the time of and during employment. Festival staff will assist with identification of available housing.
  • Opportunities to attend free performances and meet prominent artists in the classical music field.
  • Educational seminars with guest speakers and Festival staff.
  • Increased understanding of the performing arts and arts administration.
  • Opportunities to interact with top administrative professionals in the performing arts field.
  • Many of our interns have moved on to careers with leading orchestras and arts organizations throughout the country.

In 2008, we are pleased to offer internships in the following areas: (Click on any of the titles below for a more detailed job description).

Applications are due by March 1, 2008. Application materials include a resume, cover letter stating internship(s) of interest, two letters of recommendation and a writing sample. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Internships begin May 12, 2008 and end August 16, 2008 depending on candidates’ academic schedules.
