Celebrate Independence Day with the Grant Park Music Festival
Bring your family, friends, and most patriotic self to Chicago’s Millennium Park as the Grant Park Music Festival presents an evening filled with American spirit and pride at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion on Friday, July 4, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. The Festival’s annual free Independence Day Celebration, under the baton of Christopher Bell with the Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus features the sounds of Gershwin, Copland, Bernstein, and more, concluding with Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and John Phillip Sousa’s The Stars and Stripes Forever.
Grant Park Music Festival's 80th Season Continues
July highlights include the annual Independence Day salute on July 4, Holst’s The Planets and Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony along with stirring music by Shostakovich, Saint-Saëns and Dvořák, plus a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, The Blue Planet in Concert and the National Youth Orchestra with Gil Shaham at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. The Festival takes its concerts to the neighborhoods in July: the Grant Park Orchestra to the South Shore Cultural Center July 11, Grant Park Chorus at South Shore Cultural Center July 17, and Columbus Park Refectory July 20.
The Acclaimed Grant Park Music Festival Opens Its 80th Season
The Season begins Wednesday, June 11, 2014 with a night of Tchaikovsky featuring young piano sensation Natasha Paremski. Other June Highlights include Berlioz’ Romeo and Juliet, Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5, Handel’s Water Music and Janáček’s Glagolitic Mass. Guest Artists include Stefan Jackiw on violin and Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano, along with Guest Soloists Paul Appleby, Julie Boulianne, Christine Goerke, Jill Grove, Eric Owens, Shenyang and Garrett Sorenson.
Grant Park Music Festival Appoints New Orchestra and Chorus Members
Grant Park Music Festival Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Carlos Kalmar and Chorus Director Christopher Bell are pleased to announce the appointments of new orchestra members Hannah Choi and Youming Chen and chorus members, Melissa Arning, Erich Buchholz, Klaus Georg, Dane Thomas and Dan Richardson.
