American Choral Classics with the Grant Park Chorus
Discover the rich tapestry of American choral music with a program of soulful spirituals and contemporary masterpieces in this free concert.
This year, Christopher Bell celebrates his 25th season as the Festival’s Chorus Director. In addition to leading the annual Independence Day Salute (July 4), Bell will conduct Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, showcasing the Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus (July 17 and 18), and an a cappella concert of American choral classics (July 2).
Winners of the 2006 Margaret Hillis Award for artistic excellence, the Grant Park Chorus is a fully professional ensemble and the majority of the vocalists reside in Illinois. In addition to frequent solo appearances and teaching careers, members of the Grant Park Chorus perform with ensembles such as Chicago a cappella, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the Chicago Symphony Chorus.
The June 23 concert is presented in partnership with Classical Music Chicago's Rush Hour Concerts.
