Program Notes

Description

On August 18th, 1920, the United States ratified the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote. 100 years on, women are making an impact in everything from space travel to the arts. In recognition of this pivotal event in our nation's history, this program presents just a sample of the women whose compositions and musicianship have added to the Grant Park Music Festival, including Clara Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn (once known only by their connection to a more famous male relative), Pulitzer Prize-winner Jennifer Higdon, and Chicago's own Stacy Garrop.
