Program Notes

Description

Carlos Kalmar and the Grant Park Orchestra perform Mozart’s Symphony No. 41, a work so filled with radiance and majesty, they call it Jupiter after the king of the gods. The program includes a lyrical piece by the American Impressionist Charles Griffes and the bracing Flute Concerto by Carl Nielsen. The show opens with an elegy from one conductor to another: Howard Hanson's Elegy in memory of Serge Koussevitsky.
