Christmas in June?

Christopher Bell Conducts Free Concerts with Holiday Classics

The Grant Park Chorus celebrates the winter holiday season (albeit a few months early) with classic carols and contemporary favorites. The performance adds a Chicago flair by featuring carols from many of Chicago’s populations including Polish, Italian, Ukrainian and Puerto Rican.

"Oh, what fun it is to sing a sleighing song in June,” laughed Christopher Bell, Grant Park Music Festival Chorus Director. “The Festival has always wanted to record a performance of holiday music. We are thrilled to share this festive event with our South Shore Cultural Center audience."

The wide-spanning program includes numerous famous carols, including Silent NightCarol of the Bells and Go Tell It On the Mountain, alongside choral masterworks related to the season, including Morten Lauridsen’s O Magnum Mysterium and Eric Whitacre’s Lux Aurumque.

Both concerts are free and will be available on streaming platforms in the fall, before the holidays.

The Grant Park Chorus Holiday Classic Concert takes place on Thursday, June 26 and Monday June 30 at 6:30 pm at the South Shore Cultural Center's Paul Robeson Theater
