Lili Boulanger: Psalm 24
Jonathan Dove: The Passing of the Year
Anton Bruckner: Mass No. 2 in E minor
This week, Carlos Kalmar presents a program of choral masterworks past and present, featuring the celebrated Grant Park Chorus. The concert opens with a marvelous psalm setting by Lili Boulanger, a composer who had been poised to shatter glass ceilings for women in music, but died tragically at the age of 24 in 1918. Also on the program, the Festival debut of music by the choral and operatic sensation Jonathan Dove; and a rare treat—a chance to hear a different side of Anton Bruckner, a composer who famously wrote massive, muscular symphonies, but especially poignant works for the choir loft.
