Gustav Holst: St. Paul's Suite
Ludwig van Beethoven: Violin Concerto
John Vincent: Symphony in D
Description
Beethoven wrote only one violin concerto, but in that piece put his stamp forevermore upon the instrument. Expansive, majestic, poetic and tuneful, the Beethoven Violin Concerto charms violinists, orchestras and audiences alike. Hear the piece played by two-time Grammy Award-winner James Ehnes. The program opens with Holst's folk-inspired St. Paul's Suite, a piece first performed by an orchestra of schoolgirls, and Carlos Kalmar closes the broadcast with a festive symphony by Birmingham, Alabama-native John Vincent.
