American & Russian Landscapes

This program features a pair of works inspired by composers' immersion in their native lands. Tchaikovsky's symphony emerged from a vacation to Ukraine and draws on local folk music, while Aaron Copland's suite is taken from an opera of the same name inspired by James Agee's photographs of the Great Depression.
