American and Russian Landscapes

Andrew Grams

Andrew Grams

This program features a pair of works inspired by composers’ immersion in their native lands. Tchaikovsky’s symphony emerged from a vacation to Ukraine draws on local folk music while Aaron Copland’s suite is taken from an opera of the same name inspired by Walker Evans’ photographs of the Great Depression.
